Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Police in Britain stopped a runner they spotted with a refrigerator strapped to his back, but they discovered he wasn't fleeing from a crime -- he was training for a marathon.

Daniel Fairbrother said he was practicing running with a fridge strapped to his back in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, when he was stopped by officers.

"They put their blue lights on, held up the traffic and stopped me to find out what on earth was going on. Understandably, they had not seen anything like it before," Fairbrother told the BBC. "One police officer wound down his window and said: 'You understand we've got to stop you, is that a fridge on your back?'"

Fairbrother explained the fridge, which he dubbed Tallulah in tribute to a scene from the film Cool Runnings, was helping him train for the London Marathon, where he will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon carrying a household appliance (white goods).

The current record, set by fellow Briton Sam Hammond in February 2023, stands at 2 hours, 4 minutes and 13 seconds.

Those British!!! The 3 years we lived in Littleport, England, a nearby town, Ely, had an annual festival. One of the events involved running, with a spatula, and flipping a pancake along the way… with obstacles along the way like a rope across the road… between 4 and 5 feet off ground… which you had to flip pancake over it from 1 side, go under the rope, and catch the pancake with your spatula and continue the race. One of our Brit neighbors did very good on race but dropped his pancake before the finish… I need to find those pictures. He, and his wife, live in Canada now… after being assigned there (as a nurse in RAF)… and has long since left the RAF.

According to this link (https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cornwall-65387616), Cpl Sam Hammond finished the London Marathon in 4:52. It would be very difficult for anyone carrying a household appliance to complete a marathon (42.16 km) just 4 minutes slower than the world record, 2:00:35.
Hats off to Cpl Hammond, his time was just a bit slower than my best time. And to Daniel Fairbrother for attempting to beat Cpl Hammond's record.
