My concern is this sounds like speculation. I will return to something similar to my last question. If the gray market cameras are equivalent to their mainstream brand names, then why are/were they made? This last post suggests that they are even made on the same assembly line. Absent a reliable explanation, this makes no sense to me. Perhaps more importantly, getting back to some of the original questions, why would somebody want to buy a gray market camera if they can get the “real” thing, all other things being equal? I am not asking these questions for opinions, rationale, or speculation. I have been involved in UHH long enough to know that we may have participants that actually have the answers that make sense.

If I remember correctly Nikon Corporation is at the top. There is NikonUSA Inc and many more subsidiaries around the world. The number has changed over recent years as some countries changed the rules on imports and became their own subsidiaries. That did not effect the product.

The differences are the prices and warranties, not the quality.

If you Google the history of Nikon you can find a comprehensive answer.

When I got out of Army, was back in school. Actually took some photo courses at U Mich — luckily to work with Prof Phil Davis — “Beyond the Zone System”. Just carried a Nikon everywhere I went. Then there was more school, and more school. I just kept it on the shelf. And then the digital world arrived. The camera is a beauty.

I am selling a Hasselblad 500C, with Zeiss 2.8, 80mm lens. I purchased the camera brand new in mid- 1970s, and since purchased it has never been used. Thus this is a brand new Hasselblad in brand new condition. If interested, please email me :

I found I needed a tripod for the RB67 but I used the Hasselblad 500c all day with a strap. I LOVED it. I bought a Schneider 90 degree viewfinder that lifted the camera a few inches at actual eyelevel rather than the 45 degree finder.

Used a Mamya 645 1000s for many yrs professionally and really liked the ease of use and versitility of it. The only drawback was not having interchangeable backs, which I silved by picking up a M645 as backup

I have a Yashicamat 124G in EC [except not sure the meter works--it takes an obsolete battery] with the original box, instruction manual, and MINT leatherette case. The camera takes 120 or 220 roll film. Yours for $100 plus shipping to your zip code.
