I just signed up for this trip in February. Am I nuts!!?? We will be traveling quite a bit and staying in farmhouses with dorm style rooms and the bathroom down the hall. We will be shooting the aurora borealis, ice caves, reindeer, etc. I am taking my Canon 5d mkII, a 7d as backup, a super wide angle lens (borrowing from my brother) lots of batteries and warm clothes and warm boots. Has anyone ever done this??

No, but I have always wanted to go to Iceland. Look forward to hearing how you liked it and seeing your pictures when you get back.

Have a great time and be safe, it sounds very exciting.

There's a girl behind every tree in Iceland.

Just no trees.

that's awesome. I saw a similar one last year for Norway, which is where I want to go. However, it's just not going to happen for me right now with three young kids!

A few decades back, I spent 18-months in Island (pronounced Eesland). Lots of open space, beautiful auroras (if not overcast), beautiful waterfalls (if not raining), but NO reindeer. They are on the mainland, but you can take an Islandic Pony trek. I traveled around Island by Mercedes 4-WD buses, which forded rivers up to 3-feet deep. You will have fun. Protect your camera & lens with a "raincoat".

Yes, I have a raincoat for my camera. The "expert" we are going with did say reindeer. Maybe they were introduced within the past couple of decades?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7IpM9fJGR0

I don't think I'm too worried about rain, but snow is a different story.

We have a package deal - everything included - meals, transportation, lodging. And the airfair was only $500.

Well, I guess I paid my dues - raised my kids as a single mother, now have 6 grandchildren. I'm just catching up on as many adventures as I can. Be patient and enjoy your children.
