A few decades back, I spent 18-months in Island (pronounced Eesland). Lots of open space, beautiful auroras (if not overcast), beautiful waterfalls (if not raining), but NO reindeer. They are on the mainland, but you can take an Islandic Pony trek. I traveled around Island by Mercedes 4-WD buses, which forded rivers up to 3-feet deep. You will have fun. Protect your camera & lens with a "raincoat".
Yes, I have a raincoat for my camera. The "expert" we are going with did say reindeer. Maybe they were introduced within the past couple of decades??
I don't think I'm too worried about rain, but snow is a different story.
