Yes I agree. After renting the d500 to see IF I would like it, I found it to be great for nature work, much better than I expected. I am now 75+ and unwilling to UPGRADE to the newer and more expensive gear. ... as a serious amateur, I go out daily [locally] with no intentions of traveling to the exotic locations... the newer lighter big nature lenses are great and allow me to use much better... I hope to be buying a body with less than 25K clicks in NM condition soon...
I have been using my D800e body until I get the "used/new" replacement so that I can stop switching lenses in the field... IF anyone followed my adventures, I had a long painful [ with time/expense/frustration] time getting my Nikon 500PF with TC1.4x fine-tuned... now it works fine for stills, but not as fast as the D500 BIF pics.
Thank you for your reply, regards, richard
Thanks for your input, I am always weighing the pros and cons of purchases given this is a hobby.
kind regards, richard
I just traded a D500 for a mirrorless. I think that is the future for DSLR. Also, half the weight.
Jim
which ONE? I have watched most, if NOT all unbiased videos comparing the D500 to Nikon models and of course it matters also which LENS as well... let me know what your gear is... thanks

Am considering buying a D500 body. I see lots on sale now from Japan and the USA.
Will Nikon USA still fix a D500? I don't think they will fix it at all IF it is not a USM - US MODEL...
so where can ONE get a D500 fixed? has anyone had experience with THIS MODEL D500?
I know IF it is a new Nikon, I know all is well in the USA if your model is USM. But after time, Nikon no longer services older cameras, so where can one get one serviced?
I also have a D800e, which is a USM model, but am not sure again IF it could get fixed IF it ever needs a repair...
Thanks for any help here

You probably can't get an authorized Nikon dealer or NikonUSA to supply parts or repair service. So what you get is what you keep without any sort of warranty from NikonUSA. They might not even to talk to you in tech support if you don't have a USA serial number.
Today called NIKON re: D500
Nikon still services D500, if USM or PURCHASED from an authorized Nikon Japanese store IF IF you bought it new from them OR have the POP. Nikon will not service grey market cameras and will NO longer service the D800e which I also own, so that one will either be used until it dies or I will upgrade to d850.
I know most Nikon bodies may be serviced from some 3rd party stores IF they have parts or you can provide them. My experience is the DSLR digital models are LESS LIKELY to be serviced from 3rd party camera repair shops if the parts are not available.
So the easiest buy would be D500 USM and then be careful... thanks for everybody's opinion.
