Hey Hoggers i am pretty much a casual shooter doing dog and people portraits along with anything I find interesting. I currently have a Nikon D7200 with Nikon 70-200 f/4 and a Sigma 17-50.I was looking for a ultra wide for landscapes. After reseaching all the ultra wides I found a Tokina 11-16 f2.8 AT-X Pro DX at MPB in "like new" condition for $119. I was pretty apprehensive about the low $119 price but went ahead and ordered it.The lens should be here in a couple days so I will see if it is any good. I can always send it back if I don't like it. I have used MPB a few times and was never disapointed. What do you guys think? Thanks for any comments.
The drawback of 'wide' on a cropped sensor camera is you can't get as wide as the focal length of the lens suggests. Another drawback is the absence of automated lens distortion changes to the images done in-camera, something Nikon can do automatically for Nikon lenses, but not for third-party lenses. Neither of these caveats should impact your use and decision to keep the lens at this low price. Give some examples results, when available.
Good luck Royce. Back in the day that lens had an excellent reputation. Prices have certainly tilted in your favor.
It’s a great lens, I bet you’ll love it.
The price seems crazy low to me. I don’t remember what I paid (9 yrs ago) but it was a lot more than that.
Have fun!
What Paul stated is 100% true but the lens will give you a 16 to 24 mm field of view and that should cover all of your needs for landscape photography. I have no experience with this Tokina but I know that it has been praised for its excellent optical quality. I have seen many images online of this lens and indeed it is a great optic that you surely will enjoy, The price given to you is a bargain.
Now, you will have to learn to work with the lens, specially at 11 mm where surely you will have distortions. Wide angles expand the foreground so you will be better served coming closer to your subject.

I would recommend staying with a Nikon lens.
Why? because their lenses were designed and built with your D7200 in mind.
And, they will be worth about 50-60% more than Tokina at trade in and sale time.
The Nikon 10-20 mm lens is very sharp and gives more range than the Tokina and will hold up over time.
Here is a refurbed one from B&H, they also sell new ones but refurbs are just as good.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

I have owned that Tokina lens for several years. I use it for night skies and not much else. It is very sharp, but it is relatively heavy to lug around. You'll enjoy it.
I have this lens. It’s fine on a crop sensor model but I get a lot of vignetting on a full frame.

This lens and its sister Tokina 12-24mm F4 came out around 2009. I bought both for around $700 a dozen years ago. Both are sharp and are built like tanks! You're getting a great lens deal for $119!
I still use them both on my full-frame Nikon D810's. They begin to cover the FX format around 14.5mm with the "11" and the "12" around 16mm, if I remember correctly. I've been using my D810s at a 1.2X crop, getting an approximately 20 MP RAW file which is half the normal size NEFs. These lenses definitely cover the 1.2X crop
format!
Be well! Happy New Year (the upcoming Chinese one!) Ed

Well it is a crop sensor lens.
When I was shooting a crop sensor I had that lens and I liked it a lot. As for landscapes I find that wide angle is rarely the right choice.
Had the lens--Liked the lens---Enjoy it.

It was designed for a crop sensor.
Great, tack-sharp lens. Enjoy. Have used with D7100 and D500. After getting used to composing with a wide angle lens, it's an excellent and fun lens. Wish mine had been that reasonably priced.
Royce,
I have the Tokina 11-16, and it's plenty wide on my D7100. It's very sharp. Distortion hasn't been a problem. I think you'll like it.
