The more I see her, the more amazed I am.
You are witnessing (perhaps) among the greatest violinist to date. What will she be when she has matured?

Genius for sure. I think she was 8 here.

Enjoy!

All I get is a 1/2 second flash of her - then nothing but commercials.

Mark…she’s pretty good and who knows how good she will end up being…but having heard a whole bunch of really good violinists…Joshua Bell twice amongst the…greatest just might be a little too much hyperbole. Between Bell, Midori who I though played much too softly, Hahn, Mutter, Pearlman, Shaham, and Stern (just the list I’ve heard live) and many others on recordings…she’s got a tall hill to climb. I date…Bell is the best I’ve heard.

But…she is pretty good. 😀

She’s 12 yrs old now. Did you hear any of the ones you mentioned at 12? Bell is playing today at NJPAC.

Thanks for the response

No…but that's not really relevant to how good she'll eventually be. I'll grant you she was pretty good at 8 and will likely get better…but if I wanted to nitpick I would say she played the 1st movement of the Tchaikovsky slower than most other performances I've seen…and whether that is because she artistically likes it that way or whether the conductor does or whether she simply can't play it faster is unknown. And while the 1st is the long movement…the 3rd is clearly the most challenging for the soloist when played at the faster tempo it's almost always played at…so the question of why it was only the 1st movement becomes…is it because of her endurance at age 8 or attention span at age 8 or because she can't play the 3rd movement at the proper fast tempo?

Nobody knows (well, none of us anyway) the answers…and that doesn't take away from her clear abilities…but then it doesn't speak to how much better she'll get over time.

I admit…she's good, even excellent…but my point was that best was a little over the top. No downplay of her abilities, your post or the video…because what I heard was pretty darned excellent and it's one of my 2 fave concertos.

One other thing…I've wondered ever since I first saw your avatar if you were either incognito or had a twin someplace…I had an old boss named Joe at a little company named RBIS and then Kratos…and when I first aw your avatar I said to myself that it was Joe's twin as the resemblance is almost identical.

Thanks Neil! I appreciate the explanation. Perhaps my enthusiasm is a bit overboard? I just love music and artistry - mainly classical and jazz.
Poor Joe! No twins that I'm aware of.

Hit your back button or pull back left on the slider. That might work.

Notwithstanding Neil's comments (which I think in absolute terms are very valid), I am amazed at what this small girl, who I assume is in about third grade, is capable of. I think back to the artistic level I had achieved on the piano by my eighth birthday and I have to hold my sides to keep them from splitting with the laughter. Thank you sincerely for the post and please keep them coming.

Actually it was Augustin Hadelich not Bell who played Beethoven's Violin Concerto at NJ PAC yesterday.

She is good, but there are so many excellent young violinists these days, who can tell how good they'll be when they grow up?

Christian Li, Yoeun Seol, Chloe Chua, Protsenko, etc. etc?

Hard to believe that this clearly supurb young violinist has generated so much nitpicking. I'm not sure what the purpose of your comment is other than bragging about your vast knowledge of music. Get a life.
