Beautiful set. The ocean is one of the few things I miss from California

Elephant Seals, Seascapes, Shore, and more at Piedras Blancas and San Simeon, CA on January 4, 2024. My wife Char and I shot sharing two cameras. A Pentax K-3 (24MP) with smc-Pentax-FA 100-300mm Lens and a Pentax K-5 (16MP) with a Tamron (K-FA) 18-200mm Lens. Here are 10 of the best 46 I processed of 305 exposures we made that day. They are of Female Elephant Seals, their pups, a few resting males, Gulls, and a few other unidentifiable birds as silhouettes. We did not see any male Elephant Seals fighting, but many females were arguing over nesting locations. Since we were trading equipment back and forth, I don't really know who shot what so I attribute the images to both of us. View full sized and feel free to comment or ask questions. Enjoy.

Nicely done. Interesting shots of the seals. Your seascapes are very nice, and I really like #8. Thanks for sharing.

Glad you like my Beach / Shore photography. Before moving I used to photograph the Mojave and Colorado Deserts of CA a lot.

Wow, thank you Bill. That is really high praise because I am not totally happy with some of my images. I posted only ten, perhaps some different ones from the 46 finals. I think the main issue for me was what I had envisioned and expected to what I ended up with. That was partly the animals, no fighting males. Only a couple of the big males were active at all. And the WB was jumping all over the place from shot to shot between the two cameras. My wife's images had the same issue. Might be the lenses, the two long ones used, 18-200mm and 100-300mm are two of my cheapest lenses. I needed those for their reach. I have a 150-500mm but it is nearly impossible for me to hold and use. Perhaps I should think about getting a good 400mm prime. I get much better results with my shorter lenses, Prime and Zoom. I probably should not rant after praise.
