Today I visited a spot I have known about for a while but had not been able to get to. Elmley Nature Reserve on the Isle of Sheppey off the coast of Kent-UK. The Reserve is a 3300 Acre (1333 Hectares) Privately owned property. It consists largely of marshland, and is the only place in the UK that can be "birded" mostly from ones motor vehicle, although there are a lot of walking that is possible. Huge flocks of Lapwings are common as are loads of Starlings and many other species. Barn owls are common as are Harsh Harriers, Curlews, Oyster catchers and Black Tailed Godwits.
I decided before the visit that I was not going to have any expectations and was rewarded with some of the best if not the best day I've had for quite some time. The weather was not good - very grey and wet and although I did not produce much to write home about by way of Great captures I really enjoyed the day and was excited about the potential off the place.
