Shooting Film: Neopan Acros 100II

Fujifilm Neopan Acros 100II is a 100 ISO B@W film known for its fine grain and high detail. Fujifilm website calls Acros II the "highest standard in grain quality among all other 100 ISO films". This film is a Orthopanchromatic film unlike the more popular panchromatic B@W film known in the industry. This type of emulsion allows Acros II to be more sensitive to colors.

Acros II is the successor to Neopan Acros and part of the Neopan line of films offered by Fujifilm dating back to 1952 with the original Neopan 100SS film. Other films in the Neopan line included Neopan 400 Professional, Neopan 1600 and Neopan 400CN. Of all the film in the Neopan family, Acros was the last to survive and on April 6, 2018, Fujifilm filed a press release announcing the termination of Acros film due to "decreased sales".

For whatever reason, in the Spring of 2019, Fujifilm announced that Neopan Acros was coming back on the market with a new emulsion formula making Neopan Acros bigger and better. My guess is that film photographers who shot Neopan Acros complained enough to Fujifilm they decided to bring it back. Nevertheless, on November 22, 2019, Neopan Acros 100II was released to the Japan and United States markets for the first time. One interesting note, the box containing Acros 100II states "Made IN UK". Probably by Ilford since they are a film manufacture in the United Kingdom.

According to Analog.Cafe (published on 5-18-22), Neopan Acros 100II with its new emulsion allows 9 stops of dynamic range along with its fine grain and high detail.

Attached are several images of Neopan Acros 100II I took over the last several weeks. I can honestly say I like the look of this film and will be using it again. All images were taken with a Nikon FE2 and various vintage lenses.

I hope all Y'all in this Film Subsection of UHH have a wonderful Christmas, a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Jim.

Thank you Curmudgeon. I appreciate your kind words. I have only been shooting film for around a year. Have a lot to learn but it was fun doing the research for this post. Merry Christmas. Jim
