Although my wife and I visit this exhibition almost every year, I never photographed it before and didn't anticipate the many difficulties I would have in doing so. First of all, it was pretty dark, and you're seeing it here in much brighter circumstances than we who were actually there saw it. Secondly, it was very crowded, with many other folks trying to take pictures without regard to who was already standing in some particular spot. So I had lots of competition, was constantly jostled, and had lots of outstretched hands with cell phone cameras in them getting in front of my lens. But I persevered, beat up a few tourists ... small, old ones ... and managed to get what you see here. Not great, in terms of quality, but viewable.

(I'm kidding about beating up the tourists.)

They may have had camels back then in Europe. I don't know, but it is possible.

These two sets have been a real visual treat that I've enjoyed immensely. Unbeknownst to you, the study of the Medieval period was a main focus of mine while in college. I was extremely fortunate to have had two semesters of study in the humanities that were taught by a wonderful lady, Dr. Frances Kinne. Her list of personal friends among the world's leaders was amazing...entertainment personalities like Bob Hope, political leaders like Dwight Eisenhower were in her circle of dear friends. Her travels around the world must have come close to that which you and your wife have experienced.

I digressed a bit above to make a point...learning from people, like yourself, who have been there, done that, is a world apart from the typical scenario. Along with my interest in the Medieval period, and you showing these great creations reflecting on life in those times, I feel blessed to have enjoyed the story and scenery that accompany this posting.

Boy, Tom. You write such encouraging and erudite evaluations that I barely know how to respond. My wife and I have traveled more than most people, and thus have seen and done quite a lot, but in your own way, you've done even more. The driving. The flying. And now I learn about the medieval studies.

I majored in physics, and was not the least bit interested in history or politics until AFTER I graduated college ... just about the time I began traveling and seeing how the rest of the country, and then the world, lived and thought. You obviously had quite a head start on me.

This medieval scene is certainly a testament to perseverance and craft as is your photography. Cell phones poking in every direction are quite an annoyance and I wonder how many of those “photos” ever seen the light of day. At least you are sharing.
You surely do live in an interesting city with ever so many interesting places to visit, notwithstanding all the global travel you have done.
