"Hidden" Items in Adobe Bridge

When I open a folder in Adobe Bridge, I usually see something like "95 items, 8 hidden." What does this mean? Why are some items hidden? Can they be un-hidden, or revealed?

Good question, I don't know either and I use Bridge, ACR, and Ps daily - I only use Ps, never Lr. "Side card" files perhaps. I did not think I was using those with my DNG RAW, i.e., included. Right now my Adobe Bridge says 653 items, nothing about hidden.
