These are great! Not being familiar with Canon gear, I'm not sure what you are saying. 70-300 + Canon 500D close up lens?

Thanks Chief ! the 500D is a + 2 diopter 2 element lens that screws on the front of the lens. Canon no longer makes them. Canon size goes to 77mm. Nikon also made their version - but only goes to 62mm dia. - only available on ebay as Nikon no longer makes theirs either

Nikon calls them 5T and 6T for 62mm .....the 5T is +1.5 diopters ( infinity = approx. 29 inches )

I've tried those many years ago. Not impressed. But, again, many years ago. I might have to revisit the concept! Thanks, Larry!
So no problem using a Canon (yuck) :-) with Nikon if you need a larger diameter??

Many people think these 2-element close up lenses are antique and somehow shameful in use with all the current "high" technology options today
.....BUT, they are
1.cheap
2.versatile - they fit ALL lens mounts and lenses (with adapter rings for the front of the lens)
3. of high image quality when used with a high quality lens.
4. small/light easy to carry
So why use these close up lenses when there are so many high quality "macro" lenses ?? Well, macro lenses can be somewhat expensive for some of us. AND, no ZOOM macro lenses are currently being made ! I really like the idea of a zoom/macro. I have used the 500D CU lens on Canon 70-200 f4 L and now the 70-300 IS II - both GREAT lenses giving great CU images. I do have 100 and 180mm macros that I seldom use now.
Logically, getting a 77mm and adapting it down to smaller sizes if needed makes sense...

Thanks, Larry! I'm going to take a look at them. I do have a Tamron zoom macro lens. Recommended by a UHH member. I had never heard of one before. I like it.
