Being a photography teacher, I try to keep up with new products. Here is a test of the Sony a7Cii and the Sony 20-70mm G F4. I always do a star shot because it quickly shows lens flaws edge to edge like coma . This was shot Dec 14 at 11:44 PM here in Central Oregon. ISO 3200, 10 sec f4. at 20mm. The second shot is ISO 3200, 20 sec, f4 at 20mm. On the second shot (center left and lower) is a capture of a Geminid's Meteor skipping through the atmosphere and also an airplane on the lower right. The Sony lens is very good to my eye. The Sony a7Cii does very well with noise up to about ISO 12,000 where it becomes distracting. These images have no PP. Enjoy I also tested the Sony a7CR. Noticeable noise creeps in much sooner at about ISO4000. Can I replace my a6500 and a9 with the a7Cii ...maybe... more testing to be done.
Star tests will definitely separate the good from the bad. I see M42, however the lens didn't resolve the Trapezium...😉😉😉

I thought it's a very good rendering of Orion and Canis Major. You would need a much bigger lens to see any definition of M42 and the trapezium looks pretty good also for a 20 - 70 mm lens. Sirius A is pretty bright but no sign of Sirius B. Hope you didn't expect that. ORpilot seems to be OK with this combination of camera and lens so far.

My reply was actually a compliment of the lens. Didn't he say it was at 20mm? Even being able to make out M42 @20mm is very good. The comment about the Trapezium was for laughs. I've actually captured The Trapezium with seven associated stars, but with a C14.
