You seem to have a thing about religion. I watch murder re-enactments on TV on various stations. You know what? It isn't the religious people that are killing people. It's the people without belief, without a sense of right and wrong, without a sense of the sanctity of life. So, blame religious people all you want, but they're not the ones killing people for, the prime reasons being: greed, sex, anger, drugs and alcohol.

I don’t think I ever said I have a problem with religion. I do have a problem where governments tell you which religion you must follow.

Thankfully our founding fathers saw the problems that caused in Europe and made a separation between Church and State. Understand, however, that the separation between Church and State is totally different than separation from Right and Wrong. In fact, the laws written by the various governments of our country are supposed to stand up for what is right in order to protect all of their peoples.

My ancestors include both Puritans and Quakers that left England in the early-mid 1600s. Both groups were being persecuted by the Church of England, so they packed up and came here. You would think that the Puritans would have understood how unfair religious persecution was. Instead, once they were over here and free of persecution, they started persecuting the Quakers. One of my direct ancestors was the big shot in the Puritans Boston church, making it akin to the Vatican of today. I’ve found where he not only presided over the hanging of at least two Quakers but he even wrote a song about it, singing it as he walked the streets.

I’ve done a lot of historical research on my ancestors and there were some really good folks and some no count characters that did the world a favor when they died. But I cover both sides equally.

An unfortunate, and un-Christian, episode. Our founding fathers saw it in Europe, and perhaps even here in this instance. Mixing religion and government do not mix as far as having a religion actually rule. That's why we have the separation of Church and State. Even Paul was aware that there were some who preached the Gospel for greed and not from a pure heart. Is it a stretch to think that men would use religion for power and abuse and make a mockery of that very religion due to their impure motives?

Since you've researched the Puritans, have you read The Death of Death in the Death of Christ by John Owen?

Let me know what you think. He's probably the preeminent Puritan author and wrote other books as well.
