Sounds familiar. 79.
I'm 79-1/2 :). Don't forget the half.

That’s the problem with being 79, I forget everything and that’s not just the half of it.
Phone cameras will always be inferior to those big cameras. Photographers who are serious about their art will use a camera not a phone it produces a superior image. Phone cameras are excellent snapshot cameras but will always fall short of high quality

Not from some I've seen.
TOTALLY acceptable...
I've no problem at all with using mine for shooting.

I would be very interested in the results of such a survey
That would make an interesting study. I also would be interested in the results. I'm 76.

Many of the younger generation that I know do have a good attention span, just not when it involves certain subjects. They feel that a cell phone camera takes selfies and some other "pictures" so why use something large, bulky, heavy, and operation of which involves adjusting settings. Many want results faster and more efficiently than a DSLR or MILC can provide. Similarly there are many here who are dismissing and even disparaging the DSLR in favor of the MILC. Basically it is a personal choice.
I'm 72, and surprisingly among the younger set for this site. I've pointed several younger folks (30s-40s) to this site over the years, plus my own kids. Two of the seven of my kids have joined. My son is in the Navy on a sub, so he doesn't post much or have the time. Our oldest daughter (40) is on here (Vertical Viking) & every photo she's posted is from her phone, and does some excellent work. I've tried to get her to get a "real camera", but she's just not interested, or not interested enough to actually spend the money, which admittedly is tight.
She once expressed interest in getting a Nikon 7200 or 7500 but never has, probably too expensive.
Some of our other kids take pretty good photos, but all on their phones. Oh, well.
Perhaps we should be asking a different question. What might we be doing that excludes or discourages younger people? I can think of a few things.

She does indeed! Beautiful, beautiful compositions, mostly vertical, but I spotted two lovely horizontal landscapes also
Have no idea why you'd want her to change.

Interesting. Is it the appeal of social media versus this format that is the main factor do you think?

Some have already been mentioned: rigid mindset, ego-driven rude comments, along with comments that wander far from the original post.

Who wants to own a desktop computer, a camera body, editing software, and one or more interchangeable lenses to simply post to the internet, something done instantly from your phone? Does the gray or blue hair prevent people from seeing this simple and clear logic?
Probably not because the younger crowd only takes pictures with their cell phone. Only serious photography students use cameras nowadays.

No.
But the people who live photography and have it in their blood do.......
They're "involved" and they expect everyone to have the same fervor.
