On flash diffuser I use AKDiffuser.

They custom build theirs to most models.

You will have problems filling a room with an on camera unit...but there it is.

I'm looking for suggestions for an on camera flash modifier. I would like something small but effective and easy on and off. This would be for indoor photos with walls and ceilings less than ideal for bounce flash.

I shot a wedding once in a very large room with 30' ceilings so bounce was not doing well. I used a sheet of card stock and a rubber band.

The basic idea is to make the light source larger than the small window in the speedlight. A small light source will produce sharp shadows. The larger the light source the more diffuse the edges of the shadows will be so increasing the size of the light source is the key to softening shadows. To be sure, a single sheet of 8.5x11 paper like this is not going to make a big difference, but it helps and it's easy to make (and inexpensive to try). You can probably find a rubber band about the house but card stock is a specialty item you may have to go out to buy. It does not have to be paper: it could be a sheet of stiff plastic or thin plywood. It can be anything that you can paint or cover with something white. The surface does not have to be flat.

The photos I got with this modifier did show shadows but they were better than the shadows from just the speedlight.

Another modifier I got a while back was a plastic thingy that attached to my speedlight (I have forgotten the name of the thing but it was 360 something). It was a ring that fit onto the end of the speedlight. It could be rotated 360 degrees about the axis of the speedlight. You could insert a white card into the ring to reflect light to the side (similar to the paper described above) but you could rotate it into any position to direct the light wherever you wanted. It did the same sort of thing but more expensively. (All my photo stuff is temporarily in storage).

I, too, use the Fong Lightsphere. Tried many different diffusers over the years. Fong's is compact, easy to setup and take down. Bounce without the dome or use dome for added diffusion. Results are almost as soft as large diffusers.

OK-Don't laugh (yet)! I still have my Larson Reflectasil SOFT SHOULDER. I use a 12-inch square reflector umbrella. Looks kinda unwieldy but it ain't as bad as it looks. It's gotta be the world's most odd but effective on-camera flash modifier. The bracket is well designed and balanced. And... if you are limited to one camera light- the results are outstanding. It's just enough off the lens axis to enable some modeling and the angle of coverage can accommodate a wide-angle lens. You can use a small silver or white umbrella.

Vintage? For sure- there are several on eBay- cheap! Granted, you may attract a bit of attention at an event!

Excuse the faded ad, it's OLD!

I have received many good suggestions for this group. Thank You!!
I am going to start with the suggestion from DirtFarmer using some card stock and a rubber band. If this works then I will proceed to purchase a commercial product similar to this idea. I if it doesn't work out, there are many other suggestion that have been made by the Hogs that should solve my issue.

I will be using a Yongnuo YN600EX-RTII flash unit on a Canon R6mii so I'll see how things turn out.

Thanks again to the know of this group.

Encouragement: With my SB300 - a small shoe mounted flash, I use an index card and rubber band. Works well enough for most of my "snapshots".

Finally remembered the other gadget I used. 360 Spinlight. Haven't seen many of them in use recently but I have been less active in big events.

You may use it to bounce or for indirect flash. Sometimes simple is best, and that makes me . . .
