Had somebody complain recently that I am rarely in my pics. Told them the focus isnt meant for me.

Why screw up beautiful scenery with my mutt of a face in the way?

Thanks

Here, I can add context around images, sometimes 'telling' stories. I primarily post images to Flickr, but that 'story telling' aspect isn't there, so posts here are an enhanced version, as well as, the UHH posts are just a minor subset of the image dump on Flickr.

UHH was my first online forum of any type. I had no idea how the user name is displayed on every posting, hence my inclusion of "from Maine" even though I'd been living in Washington State 10 years already

I enjoy being inspired by those with more talent than I have, and I enjoy a bit of mentoring and advising others. I enjoy constructive feedback coming from pov's that I hadn't considered, and I enjoy ego-stroking when it's a photo or creation I'm proud of.

At this stage of life, online photo clubs are far more desirable than going out in the evening, in the dark and bad weather, to sit in a room full of people where I don't have the option to close the browser or click unwatch

A little ego-stroking, getting constructive feedback and hopefully show an image of something that the majority of UHH members have not seen before and to spread some joy.

I post photographs for many reasons. First let me explain, I am a picture taker. I take spur of the moment shots in field situations that most people call snap shots. I am not, and never want to be, considered a photographer.

I post because my ego needs stroking. I post things that I find interesting that others may too. I post because occasionally I can bring someone joy or get a chuckle out of them.

I am also an image creator. I take several images, often from different sources, combine them to produce a picture. Please take note of my terminology, I take images and combine them into a picture, not a photograph.

I post in several Forums. Where I post depends on the subject. Photographs generally go in Photo Gallery or Birds where they get the most looks (remember ego). Occasionally a photograph will go to one of the Specialty Forums where I hope to get honest critiques, my ego be damned, in an attempt to improve my skills.

Composite pictures generally go to one of the Specialty Forms for meaningful critiques of my effort. If I create a composite that I think is really cool I may post it to Picture Gallery (remember ego). Occasionally I will construct a composite that has a "social message". Being careful not to cross the line and get moved to The Attic I will post it in the Photo Gallery

I post to give back to an industry that has given me so, so much. I'm not very prolific in photography, these days, but I do like helping other folks figure things out about their tools and techniques. My special interests are film-to-digital conversions, short form videos, and general photography. I was an audiovisual producer in the 1980s, and worked for a school portrait and yearbook company (actually three of them; one bought the other bought the other) for 33 years in nine very different roles. I always intended to be an enabler of the good sort, and continue that occasionally futile effort today.

I post to share what I think might perhaps be of general interest. No ego whatsoever as I am confident of myself. No need to be stroked. I know that what I do is excellent.
It is fun to post.

I mostly post a new thread when I come upon a topic of news or information that I find interesting, and hope that by sharing it other members of the forum will find it informative too.

Exactly. And I've learned so much from the different threads and discussions. I've been personally challenged to try different POVs, different subjects and different types of photography. I too belong to a couple forums and each has something different to offer.
