I suspect that would have been fun to travel around the frozen north in.

Nice photo of that Grumman Goose. Interestingly, I have flown in that very plane. A long time ago. For anyone coming up to Alaska, the Alaska Aviation Museum is well worth visiting. Lots of interesting aviation history.
Looks similar to the Grumman HU-16 that was used by the 33rd Air Rescue Squadron in the 1960s.

They do have the same general appearance, but the HIU-16 is larger, with a Max. Take-off weight of more than 37,000 Lbs. vs. the Goose at only 8000 Lbs.
