After years away from the hobby I have plastic air plane model that I want to do a good job on. Having not been in a hobby shop in years if I could even find one' I was wondering is there a type of masking tape fine enough to use that would not bleed through ?

Maybe you could pick up some at an auto body shop.

You and anybody else. I owned a hobby shop back in the '80s. Used to sell a lot of models kits and supplies to the kids but when they discovered computers they gave up on the models. And the guys that were into radio control models (planes, boats, cars) would get their materials and supplies from mail order. I would get the small stuff they didn't want to have to send away for. I closed the shop in the mid '80s and went on to better things. I doubt you could even find a hobby shop anymore. I used to go to a couple large hobby shops when I lived in Sacramento but they are gone now.

I miss hobby shops. And I'm in my 70's.

I live in Dayton, Oh and a quick search brought up several hobby shops in town. One that might be of interest to you is MTS Aviation Models. They specialize in what you are doing. I know they are not near you but they might be able to answer your question. 937-320-1428. And of course, there is always Hobby Lobby.

Frog Tape works well with acrylic paint. It doesn’t ‘bleed’ like the others. Not sure if it will work with model paints, but for a couple bucks it’s worth a try.

Depending upon what you are wanting to do, I would recommend Tamiya 10mm masking tape. Go to Megahobby.com or Hobbylinc.com.
The other option is to find a local hobby shop.

I am 74 and I did model cars years ago. Since I am retired I started back building again. I don't have as steady of hand as I once did. I buy masking tape from any hobby shop, Hobby Lobby for one.

I got hooked on those wood models, like marble runs. Challenging and fun

After applying the tape, seal the edge with clear before applying the colored paint
