He gave me this very cool analog VOM. It's fully functioning and accurate. They are still selling it new for about $500. It's the model 270 which has somewhat higher accuracy than the standard and more well known model 260.

I still have a Triplett 630 as well and used to have a 260. They’re both great meters and are selling at a premium price now. Did you get the probes with it, and are the batteries OK?

I didn't get the probes with it. The genuine Simpson probes are $60-$70 and they are still sold new. I ordered the Masterprobe test leads for $24. They are reverse banana plugs so they are rare. I have a bunch of test leads for the Fluke but they are not the reverse type. It takes 1 D battery and 1 9Volt battery. The batteries are full. Fuses are good. I use a make do test leads in the mean time and check out all function and found it's up to specs still. It looks like new. I don't know how old it is as the same model (and revision) was made in the mid 80's until today. The 260 has more revisions.

I think it's quite old because it said Simpson Electric Elgin Illinois. I used to live in Aurora which is just South of Elgin and I know that the factory was closed either late 80's or early 90's. Simpson is now in Lac Du Flambeau in Wisconsin. I think they survived because they are owned by the native American thus they have a lot of tax breaks.

My dad had a Simpson meter in his repair shop as early as I can remember.
I was born in 1944. I knew the color code and how to solder before I was 6.
Simpson is alive and well.
But, this discussion made me go and dig a little as I remember a site that had much info.
Here is what I found:

Comparison of the Simpson 260 vs 270 Series

This site can take a while to load so be patient. More info than you ever wanted to know at: Simpson260.COM.

I also have a 260 series 2 which was make between 1940 and 1950. It's OK but the terminal on the batteries holders that hold 4 AA batteries are corroded badly due to battery leak. So I had to just solder the batteries together and connect the wires to the meter. It fits inside the case though.
