The only pets we ever had were a successive couple of parakeets. And they actually belonged to our daughter. Since we went away so often and for so long, keeping dogs or cats was impossible as, kennels, for us, were out of the question.
The birds we would give to my mother to babysit. As long as she fed and uncaged them, they didn't seem to care one little bit.
My bird is crazy. I don't know where she learns things that we never taught her. She says "Look, the cat. The kitty cat. She never saw a cat. She says "I want a potato". Birds are not supposed to have potatoes. She has no idea what one is. If you don't answer her, she then says she wants a backed potato. No, I didn't spell that wrong. I thinks she means baked. She calls me Mimi and says "where's Mimi" about 50 times a day. Often, I am right beside her when she calls me. Sometimes she just calls my name and when I ask "what"...that's wrong. She corrects me and says "What Kiwi?" That's how you are supposed to answer her. Just "what?" won't do. She calls Joe and when he doesn't answer, she cries like a newborn baby. Birds are far smarter than people think.
