Is Ai and deep fake going to effect the election

I was looking at a TV program about deep fake and some of the images were so real it was disturbing. Should there be some sort of control or law against producing deep fake images. For example if like me someone doesn't know which way to vote a deep fake image/video could influence them wrongly. Or worse still an enemy country could produce something that could split the country and incite violence. So should we control Ai?

AI is so complex and potentially dangerous that I absolutely think it needs guidelines and control.

Unfortunately we may need to rely on AI to develop those guidelines. And we may need AI to evaluate diametrically opposed solutions that are put forth by AI engines.

We may eventually get to the point that AI decides that Earth is plagued by an infestation of carbon based units.

Watch the movie, "Colossus: The Forbin Project".
It was produced in 1970 and worth watching if you worried about AI

With competing global interests how would you propose we (the U.S.) control anything.

Well, judging from many of the attitudes on display here in The Attic, caring or being concerned about global interests puts you into a unique class of American.

I believe AI is a global issue that needs a cooperative global solution. I do hope the US gets to lead the effort.

I agree, my concern are the nefarious elements worldwide who hack systems, employ bots or other forms of electronic disinformation. Wondering how they will ever be stopped. As with everything the rules will only apply to those willing to follow.

We agree on all points. But we should not give up hope that there is some good to come from AI, just as with nuclear energy.

At least you know the source and can give it the weight it deserves.

Several months ago, I used an online AI site to create such images as you described above. Here's some examples.

Don't be so snobbish, there is a difference between international regulation that protects us all from something so formidable as AI and spending 100's of billions of dollars overseas when our country is already bankrupt and in decay.
