My daughter took these shots from I5 on way to airport with family. She wasn’t driving 😏. I just cropped and straightened them to remove power lines and Jersey barriers.

I don’t like to use phones because of the lack of a useful viewfinder and control. But…

I'm blessed with seeing Rainier as frequently as we get clear weather here in Western WA.

Beautiful. Mt. Ranier is always happy to pose for a photo. That’s a beautiful sky. Nice catch.

Actually, she is pretty shy. Hiding in the clouds much of the time.

But when she’s out, it’s amazing. A number of years ago we flew out of Sea-Tac on a morning flight and it was a clear morning at sunrise. The pilot took advantage of it and flew fairly close to Ranier, just about level with the peak. It was amazing, a real treat.

With the double peaks she is easily identified from the air. Not all are. Many many years ago when Mt St. Helens was acting up on a business trip to Portland our pilot was granted permission to do a little jog so both sides could see the mountain. When leaving we ask around the airport which mountain we could see was Mt. St. Helens. Nobody knew. About a week later I bet everyone else knew!

Jack, your daughter did you proud. Beautiful shots. Great composition and interesting subject. Will have to give you credit for the photoshop edits removing the lines.

Yep, no doubt about which one it was.

Those volcanic peaks really stand out. When we were in Wasilla in ‘99 Denali stood out impressively in the distance. When got off the train and the day until we went on you could clearly see the few thousand feet under the clouds. I was told Denali has the greatest rise from its base to peak. Unless you count Mauna Kea which claims the greatest rise from its base on the ocean floor.

They’re both pretty close. Denali/Mt. McKinley, tops out at 20,320’ and rises from nearly sea level. Moana kea does too, but isn’t quite as tall as Denali. By contrast, Mt. Everest peaks at 29,032, but it’s just a tall peak rising from a very high mountain ridge, so it’s total rise isn’t as much.
