I'm too old to tackle a job like that, Frank. I am glad you still have the energy.

I a too but damned if im gonna pay someone to do it. It would have been easy to remove the door and casing but the hole would have still been too narrow and I have been going over this in my head for over 3 years.

Every so often we get a booom.
Some one decides to take an old heater tank that ran at 35 pounds
And turns it into a compressed air tank at 125+ pounds.
They DO make it thru the roof!

I have done several ways when working with one of my friends. People do all sorts of stupid alterations especially in basements.

I was wondering about that also. Maybe he put the new water heater in a more accessible location.

I'm wondering why it was necessary to insert a copper tube into the heater to get the water out. Water heaters have a drain for removing sediment. It is visible in photos 1 and 3.

It doesn't drain ALL the water, probably leaves an inch or two but it has a hose connection and so it could be done without a pump.

Doh, is that what that valve is for?🙄🙄
The valve would not turned I didn't want to take a chance breaking it partially open.
