Wow! That has some tremendous possibilities. I don't think the hills in the distance and the sky are adding anything. They actually weaken the image. But the foreground, the bottom half of the image - wonderful.

By golly, you might be right, Mike! Thanks so much.
I keep cringing over the mustard yellow UHH page, though. Some b&w just don't look right
I like the original more. Shows the vastness of the fog.
The mountains are a nice delimiter between the sky and fog.
The cropped one, to me, is much better.

I like this cropped version.

It is awful, and it would be such an easy fix, just change one line in the CSS code -
background-color:#EEEED2;
Ugh. How about de-saturating it and lightening it a little? (The UHH background, not your image.)
For example:
background-color: #F4F4E8;

Thanks very much, Bill. I've always been fond of that range of hills
Really two different stories now. As you say, "vastness" and showing that the fog is settled in the valley area. The other is about forms in fog, from well defined to indistinct.

Thanks for the suggestion and for your time in creating, Mike. I think maybe more like this:

Yep. Very nice.
I wanted to see what your image looked like against a different (hypothetical) UHH background color.
My first impression of the post was to answer you with a resounding yes (too far away). But looking at the download was a better perspective of the relationships of size, depth, setting, distance, etc. I think if there was a bit of shape shadowing in the fog between the trees and the hills/mountains it would reinforce your intent. I'd keep the full scale image. I think, from the vantage point you had to take this, a crop would lose the benefit of the story...that's just how I see it.
