Gimp 2.8

I was looking at a tutorial on how to create a filmstrip using Gimp 2.8. I do not use Gimp, so I downloaded the 2.8 version and installed it. I designed the filmstrip as I was watching the tutorial. Everything went great, until I saved it to my desktop. I thought it would be saved as a JPEG....not so. Has anybody used Gimp, and knows how to save it as a JPEG?

you have to do an "export" to convert it to JPEG

Thank You noknees438 for the information about Gimp. I will give it a shot. Another question I have. Some how I have closed the panels on each side of Gimp program 2.8. Do you, or anyone else know how I restore them??.

In the top menubar, click on "windows", then uncheck "hide docks".

O.K. OddJobber. I think I have it now. This is the first time I have ever used Gimp, so it's all new to me. I'm use to using PSE 10. Thanks for your help.
