This is the finished filter.
The filter sheet on the front and back is smooth and clean but you will see reflections and I keep it covered with the white protective paper which came with the film I bought from Baader Planetarioum in Washington state, it is called Astro Solar film.

Comments and opinions welcome.

Looks like you really worked on it, Bruce. Good luck. I used a homemade rig for copying slides, and that worked out pretty well.

Thank you, yes, it seems to work pretty good. When the clouds clear I’ll get some full sun shots and I’ll probably post a couple of them.

What I did was to sandwich the Thousand Oaks filter between 2 pieces of solid cardboard. I cut out 2 circles the diameter of my Tamron 70-300mm sunshade. Then cut out the inside so the cardboard was about 1/4" The filter fits nice and tight. Easy removal and storage in a large filter case

Cool, this is what I did, I sandwiched the filter sheet between to cardboard pieces I cut from a beer carton.
