I usually take photos with my Nikon camera but last week I was absolutley blown away with my cell phone camera.
I was doing a portrait shoot of two older women for a gallery. My camera battery died on me and I forgot to take another one. So, I used my cell phone camera and I was very taken aback how good the shots came out. The prints were amazingly clear.
How can this be ?

No wrinkle. But any way use what works for you.

My cameras are set up for BBF and this is not conducive to others taking pics of us and a couple weeks ago someone offered to take a pic of us while on a mountain side vacation hike. I handed over my cellphone and was quite pleased with the results. Really great as opposed to nothing at all!

This prompted me to begin using my cell as a viable supplement. Now all I have to do is learn how to better use it.

The more one understands about a piece of equipment, the better one can utilize it.
I like my cell camera.

I too have BBF set up in my camera. Luckily, when I change it to "Auto" for someone else to use the camera for me, it reverts back to "non-BBF" mode (PHD). No need to explain usage details to someone (other than put the center square on what you want to focus on), they can just use it.

This is good information to know, and should be posted on the Smartphone Photography section as it would encourage others who use their smartphones as cameras. And you should post some of your photos there, too. Thanks for posting this.

"How can this be ?"

One reason is that companies like Apple, Samsung and Google have sales volumes that support research budgets that Nikon and Canon can only dream of.

As has been mentioned, the modern Smartphones do a TON of processing to optimized EACH picture you take.
The optics and sensors are steadily improving, so this is not unexpected.
I shoot with Both an older D3100 & my Samsung S-23. While my crop sensor Nikon still gives me more to work with PP, the Samsung will ALWAYS get a shot that is at least presentable.

Cells are especially better than the popular small cameras of the past. Like 20 years ago.

Perhaps a few Hoggers (me) would welcome knowing which cell phone you were so astounded by!

More like 20-60 years.
The Kodak Instamatic premiered in 1963.
