The Odalisques

The setting for this is a small inter-room lobby in a local museum. The ladies have all appeared here previously in my composites, although not necessarily in these poses. The Turkish brazier is a bit of my junk. All images are mine.
Odalisques, or ladies of the harem, have always been a popular subject with Orientalist artists. Your critique is welcome.

Hard to go wrong with beautiful models Dave. Technically well done as usual. I really like the colors. How many layers on this one?

Lovely ladies certainly help Jack. I started with a hurried shot of the lamp, just to compare it with one we have at home, but decided it might be possible to reconstruct the lobby area. So the setting is a patchwork that I didn’t take too much trouble over as I didn’t imagine using it - don’t look too closely! In all around 55 layers, includes a simplified version without using the actual lobby.

Thanks Veronica, it does show (see my comment to Jack) and doesn’t bear too close a scrutiny!

Intriguing light, designs, textures, colors, story - all there!

I can appreciate all the work you have done on this one, Dave.

You may want to pay some attention to the lady's right arm where it is leaning against the door frame. It needs to be removed from her clothing in that area. Yes, I know it is a nitpick.

The decor all around the museum is quite staggering Linda. I must get back there and take some photos when there are not so many people about. Might get a better shot of that lobby. Mostly the collection is based on a couples' Grand Tour, so there is plenty to shoot. Glad you find the image of interest.

Yep, I was in two minds whether to take a bit more out Gaylord. I guess you're right - I'll have another look at it. No need to worry about nitpicking!

I like it. The colors are perfect for the effect.

Thanks Erich. The colours are driven by the actual colours of the lobby area, which was such lovely artwork.

How did I miss this one? A visit to İstanbul in the early 70's with a long uphill walk to a place called the compound is what comes to mind with this composite, Dave. https://macbuddha01.wordpress.com/2010/12/11/the-compound/ Alto, I did not partake in any activity with my visit, I do remember it well and absolutely no photos were allowed to be taken. Your composite is well done and a reminder of days gone past.

I thought my picture was a bit ‘up market’ compared to the compounds Dave! Now if you’d managed to sneak an iPhone in those days we could have done a side by side comparison! Never mind, at least it brightened your memories! Thanks for the link.
