Douglas Croft, the lucky photographer, had the chance to see a Humpback Whale emerge from the depths of the ocean in Monterey Bay. He was able to capture an incredible moment as the whale breached the surface, its massive body rising out of the water right next to an unsuspecting boat. The photo shows the whale's enormous size in comparison to the boat, and the sense of awe and wonder on the faces of the people on the boat is palpable. This rare and breathtaking sight is a testament to the photographer's skill and timing, and serves as a reminder of the incredible and majestic creatures that inhabit our oceans.

What a shot. To bad humans think they own the world and not share it.

Great article.
Your photo brought back an old memory.
Back in 1978, at a place that I managed, I met a gentleman who was waiting for work to be completed on his car.
We struck up a conversation. We discussed many and various topics.
Somewhere in the midst of this conversation, photography became one of them.
I presume hesitant at first, at some point he divulged that he worked for National Geographic as a photographer.
Very causally, we continued to chat about our various travels and things we had captured on film.
After an hour or so, his car was ready, we said our goodbyes and how much we had enjoyed the conversation, he left.
About 2 weeks later I received a mailing tube which contained this photo. It is one of my cherished possessions.
The enclosed shot was copied from a website as an example. My original is in a frame.
His name is
Paul Chesley and he has done some great work during his career.
Amazing shot but where is the picture showing the people's faces?
