Here's something I found about aftermarket brands. As for accuracy, who knows.

And here's where batteries are actually made.

I use BM, Wasabi, PowerExtra and Kastar and they’ve all worked well.

Not true and not legal. Only if it is provable that a third party battery caused a problem.

Just bought a Small rig PowerADC battery for Nikon EN-EL25. So far it works great. It has a very interesting advantage. It has a USB port in for charging it. I tried that as well, works great.

Well, during the short warranty period and thereafter don’t send a camera to Nikon with a rogue battery in it. If you can’t get the battery out then it is game over.

I like having spare batteries. Having four is better than having two. My generic battery use goes back further than I can remember, and I've never had a problem. Maybe if I did a controlled test, I would find that Nikon gave me 2,000 shots, and Mr. Generic gave me 1,500, but does that matter? Not to me.

Not only will you get fewer shots with generic batteries, they will not last as long and they may cause damage to your camera. Does that matter? For me it does.
Why spend $4000.00 for a camera and turn around and save $20.00 on a generic battery?

I have sent my camera to Nikon for repair twice and in both times they told me not to send the battery. So how would they know if I use third party battery.

Your camera knows, and it will inform Nikon the truth about your battery use.
Seriously though, Nikon and other camera manufactures warn against third party battery use. Some, not all, third party batteries are not manufactured to the quality standards of OEM batteries and can cause damage to the camera.
Some folks have had no issues, but others have.
For me, the $20.00 difference in battery cost of my Sony and Nikon batteries is well worth my piece of mind.
Most third party batteries do not deliver the number of shots a OEM battery will deliver, many third party batteries don't last as long as OEM batteries. For $20.00 difference on a battery for a $4000.00- $6000.00 camera makes the decision easy for me.

That’s undoubtedly because you are not allowed to ship Li Ion batteries by air w/o special handling and packaging. I recently bought Festool cordless tracksaw which has a pair of large batteries. The box was marked in English and German do not ship on passenger planes. So I guess it is OK for a cargo plane to go down in flames because the crew is small.

What do you pay for SD cards, for filters, cleaning equipment, etc,? The same question can be raised for other consumer products as well. I am not convinced it is germane.

A UPS 747 cargo plane when down in Dubai because of the 81,000 Li-Ion batteries it carried autoignited. Yah it only killed the 2 pilots.

I use San Disk SD cards, extreme pro II to be exact, because they are the best I can use for the results I am after. For filters, the most important one I use is a CF filter, and for that I own and use a B&W German made filter. Since I use this filter a lot and take most of my vacation images with it I want one of the best CF filters I can use. The cost difference for the results make the B&W filter a bargain.
I use Zeiss lens wipes because they are the best I can get for what I use it for.
My consumer products are no difference.
Again, what we are discussing here are after market batteries, not SD cards, filters, cleaning equipment or consumer products.
After market batteries are NOT as good as OEM batteries, they do not give the same number of exposures as OEM batteries, they wear out faster than OEM batteries, and after market batteries are not recommended by many camera manufactures.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

My point was that cost is not the determinant of quality. When someone says why save, i was never how much one needs the spend?

My local photo store, Unique, sold me a replacement battery for my Nikon D3400, not Nikon but a major brand. When I tried to use it, the camera said, no battery recognized.

My local camera shop sold me an aftermarket replacement battery that swelled inside my D3400. Very fortunate to be able to get it out of the camera without it being damaged.

Now before anyone says "DO a Google search", I have tried that with little success, and here on the Hog, it seems the last post addressing the problem was from ~ 2017.
I have a "famous name" manual for my D 7500, which states that the author could not get any 3rd party battery to work in the D 7500.(?)
I replaced my alleged "factory" battery with a 3rd party unit...one of a pair my wife gave me a couple of Christmases ago, "just to see". So far, so good...it hasn't let out any of the Magic Smoke that makes our cameras work so well.
I have more than a half-dozen batteries, obtained from different sources, and for some reason, I have kept those for my D 7100 separate from the others. I am wondering if they all might not power both of my cameras with no problems? If I load a battery, and the "battery status" window reads 100% charged, and age as new, the battery should work just fine, right?
I have 3 EN-EL 15s,(no suffix) 2 Ravpowers, An EN-EL 15b, and a no-name CX-EN-EL15. I'm not sure if any one of them are "genuine" Nikons. They look good, but the differences between "genuine" and "fake" are so small, and manufacturers are surely smart enough to correct the flaws in the years since 2017. OR?
As needed, I plan to replace the batteries, hopefully with Nikon units, but other than from Nikon, which are co$tly, how can a person be sure of getting the genuine article from a local camera store or on line?

It has to do with firmware updates in newer models- older firmware disregards the battery metadata and will permit aftermarket batteries (at owners risk). The latest firmware may check the battery metadata and will disable the camera if it detects a non-brand duplicate or if the thermal safeguards are bypassed. Some cheap batteries have no thermistors, with added risk of fire or explosion! Big risk to save a few pennies. It's a combination of safety issues and manufacturer lock in toward their own products. Of course, this varies model to model, and mainly more recent models in the last five years perhaps.
