I left there last week, in the Keuka Lake Seneca Lake area and there were starting to come on. I don't know where you are planning on going, but Letchworth State Park would be a place to check out!

First hit on Google https://www.iloveny.com/things-to-do/fall/foliage-report/

Local TV reports every night. This can change quickly and every year is different.

Hello,
Although I live in the DC area I am from Ithaca,NY. Regarding timing for your trip, now is the week to go there. Although the color change in areas immediately adjacent to the lakeshores will be somewhat behind, the other areas will peak in the next few days. There are several microclimates given the topography and they change at slightly different times.
Here is a gallery of images I shot there in 2020.

If you would like suggestions on good places to go, just send me an email and I will put together a list.
Have fun—I wish I were going up this week myself.

Listen to this. I have a camp on the southern shore of Henderson Bay (North East end of Lake Ontario) where I am waiting for a photographer to grab a drone photo during the two hours between peak color and the windy rain storm that covers the ground with color. Fortunately, he lives in Sackets Harbor so maybe he can strike while it hits peak. Not yet I think. There is always next year except they are predominantly ash trees so they are doomed by the Emerald Ash Boarer.
