This post is dedicated to "blacks2". A few years back I had a few PMs with him about going to Alaska; at the time he suggested I go in September. I flew into ANC from ORD on the last day of summer, Friday September 22nd. Woke up the next morning and it was officially autumn. The attached was a cell phone grab from Saturday September 23rd. Alaska put on a real show for myself and a dear old friend. We had 6 full days of at least partial sun; it was golden from Anchorage to Valdez to Whittier then north to Fairbanks via Denali, and down the Richardson Hwy to Glenallen and back to Anchorage. Up north the colors were just past prime; down south they were in their prime. Even Denali was in full sun the late morning of Tuesday September 26th. This was my very first visit to Alaska. "WOW" does not sum it up what myself and my friend experienced.

Thanks again to "blacks2"....I am grateful forever for your suggestion I go in September.

The attached is the Matanuska Glacier, I believe.

If I ever got a shot as beautiful as Blacks 2 got on a regular basis, I would think I had arrived. Thank you for remembering him!

I think Blacks2 set the gold standard for landscape photography, and particularly Alaska scenic photography. He just had the “touch.”

Do you know what’s happened with Mike. It’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything. He and I communicated a number of times.

And yes, that is a very nice photo of the Matanuska Glacier. In fact I was just up there a few days ago and it looked just like that. Thanks for sharing. It’s a very nice and appropriate tribute to Mike, Blacks2.

Alaska is like a totally different country. Such a variety of flora, fauna, and scenery, One can never accurately predict the next view. My middle son and daughter-in-law live in Anchorage and my wife and I have visited twice. I would certainly enjoy taking another trip and spend a month or so there.

Nice shots, It reminds me of when I use to live there in Wasilla. I use to fly out to Matanuska Glacier to go camping at the foot of the glacier. I see you also caught September's termination dust on Pioneer Peak. September was my favorite time to Photograph Alaska. Polychrome Pass in Denali NP was also at its prime then.

"blacks2" was definitely had an effect on my Alaska travel! His were the BEST. Beautiful no matter when you visit the 49th state, it is outstanding! You may not want to visit when the temps are -35F, or colder... But the aurora is worth visiting Coldfoot in the winter!
