I am planning an October trip to Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia. The park contains 4502 acres, is near Virginia’s two highest mountains, and has wild ponies.
I just bought a Panasonic ZS200. It has a 1 inch sensor and 24-360mm equivalent lens, will fit in a large pocket or small belt case, and shoots raw, with an optical viewfinder.
These are the first photos I took yesterday at Vines Park in Georgia. I wanted to prioritize hiking comfort and convenience over photo quality. I want to be able to capture wildlife at some distance.
I am still learning how to best use the settings.
Looks good - Have fun with your new pal!
Looks to me you are managing just fine. Nice shots!

I think color and IQ are outstanding... I think there is a big future for 1" sensor, but its just my humble opinion.
Looks to be a great camera, Dean, great series.
Good choice - I bought the same camera this summer to used on a river cruise in Europe, rather drag my mirrorless camera with several lenses. I also had beautiful results.
Looks good from my eyes.... Does the camera have a tripod screw on the bottom? I have a hiking pole which has a wooden knob at the top which can be unscrewed exposing a screw which can be attached to a small camera. The pole is also extendable which provides a way to extend reach out toward a waterfall, or to look into a "hole in a tree". Quite handy.

Thank you. Yes, the camera has a tripod screw. I am considering using a monopod for the upcoming trip, to be used as you have described. Thank you for taking the time to mention this.
I've had a couple Panasonic Lumix's and loved them both!

A reg. walking cane with a removable head is a great faux monopod when traveling... hobble around through airports etc... and spin off the handle and attach sm. ballhead when doing photography.
