This summer has been unusual. Very few sunny days and all the flowers have been late blooming, both the domestic and wild flowers, including fireweed. Fireweed is iconic up here normally blooms in July. The blossoms start out at the bottom and then work their way up until the tip is the last to bloom, at which point it all turns to cotton. All this would normally have been over by now, but not this year. So all summer a small fireweed plant has been growing in a planter next to our garage and just now started to bloom! So I decided to get a couple photos with my iPhone 13 Pro Max, using the portrait mode to blur the background, which is the side of our house. I took to shots, the first was taken yesterday in the evening light. The second I took this morning in that light. These aren’t what I would call great photos, but they’re a good example of how the light during different times of the day affect how an image turns out. I did no editing of these images. So I thought I’d share these.
Beautiful work, Greg! We really enjoyed these flowers when we visited Alaska.

Great shots I prefer the warmth of the morning light. Interesting flowers first time I saw one. Thanks

Thanks. I’m glad you liked them I really like the warm morning light too. Fireweed gets its name from the way it grows in places where there have been wildfires. In July, during a normal summer, fireweed can form a huge red carpet in open areas. Unfortunately this summer hasn’t been “normal,” so there wasn’t much fireweed blooming. Maybe next summer.
I like the first one the best. Thanks for showing me something new.
Looks good. Sharp and nice color👍

You’re welcome. Thanks. I couldn’t decide which one I liked best. I like the color of the first shot, but I prefer the background of the second one. The first shot actually shows the true color of the fireweed blossoms, while in the second shot the early morning sunlight has warmed the colors, giving it a golden hue. I think the iPhone 13 Pro Max did a good job on both of them.
