Since drunk driving resulting in a fatality and will likely end up with prison time, doesn't seem likely they will get much. Also people with no dependents aren't immune from being killed in an alcohol related accident, how does that work?
That is all you have to say?
For the first time, drunk drivers will be called out financially. THAT is progress, even if you whine that it is not enough for your liking.
Unless you are a drunk driver, I do not see what you object to.

Gee, must be your pleasant disposition.
One question does come to mind. Should the individual's (who died) life insurance payout come into consideration? However, that would be AFTER things like the mortgage and debts were covered.

I really do not see why it should.
Folks who kill while under the influence are solely responsible for the death. That an insurances pay or not is not something to consider as the killer did not contribute to the safety net.
No, the idea is to make the killers pay for their crime.
Currently, one gets a slap on a wrist, does some time and 'one has paid his debt to society'. Same for other heinous crimes.
We say 'crime does not pay' well, it really does. Consider that someone in jail gets a belly full, medical care among other things like a roof over their heads, benefits a poor child does not always get.

Actually, I have strong reaction to anyone driving under any type of substance, even medical prescription.
My first wife was killed by a drunk driver 42 years ago.

So that's your reason for being unnecessarily rude to a fellow member?

You try to find offense when there was not.
"That is all you have to say?" is frustration at the nonsensical answer given. You don't like it? Tough.

Ron...I completely understand your feelings. I'd have them too. My condolences for your loss, even after 42 years.
