Bought two computers that were listed as renewed. Never had a problem with either one.

I have been on Amazon several times looking for a DSLR camera. I have researched till I am blue in the face, and have narrowed it down to 2 bundles.
One is brand new, and the other is about $100 less and renewed. Is there anyone out there who has experience with the renewed products on Amazon? Are they reliable and in good condition? They SAY the products are in excellent condition and have been tested but you never know.
Thank you in advance.☺️

My son ordered a renewed Playstation 3 and about 3 weeks later it started randomly powering itself off. It was in excellent cosmetic condition but we have no way of knowing if it was ever turned on and tested for such a problem. It is going to be sent back to Amazon under their warranty for renewed products they sell.

I have looked there too, and had same questions. Instead I had purchased from BOTH …. B&H… and ADORAMA… both inspect any used equipment plus they back up what they sell. I’ve had great experience with both stores

Knowing that Amazon does resell returns as they are implying by "renewed". I'd buy new from Amazon or better yet B&H or Adorama, or used from KEH. KEH has various grades from near new to junk for differing prices. There is not as much selection, but B&H and Adorama occasional sell open box or their store demo items that are essentially new or at least excellent.

I have bought some things including a camera which were factory REFURBISHED. They have a limited warranty and have looked like they just came off the shelf. Never had a problem. I have never seen anything on Amazon that was "renewed"

I stick with (in my case) Nikon refurbs and have had no problems.

Perhaps he means refurbished.

First of all, $100 off on a $400 bundle is different than $100 off of a $2000 bundle.

Secondly, I searched all of Amazon renewed devices and did not see any cameras or bundles. This is from the US Amazon.com website. Where are you checking out these deals? I would be concerned if the camera was not renewed by the manufacturer (first) o r Amazon (second). I would not by a renewed product from any other company.. --Richard

Yes. I am in the US. It was the Canon Rebel T7 28 piece bundle. But I’m pretty much sold on just getting the new one. The new one is $539 and the renewed one was $429. Knowing me, I’d be subconsciously looking for problems with the renewed one.
Rhanks so much for everyone’s help. Sometimes you gotta just throw something out there to see how other people feel.

I'm usually leery of expensive photo gear (lenses or bodies) on the big A...rather keep A purchases to accessories...camera bags, tripods, rails, filters, flashes, etc. I'd rather stick with known reputable dealers B&H, KEH, MPB, or even good rated sellers on ebay with a return policy, for the expensive stuff.

I would consider this description to be for a used item that has been checked out and repackaged for sale. Traditionally, "Excellent" has been the third category of used product, below both "Mint" and ""Like New." That's not a reason not to buy something, but it does suggest a completely different price point from something that is in "New" condition or something that has been refurbished by the manufacturer. (And yes, we do understand that Refurbished doesn't necessarily mean what we think it means.)

My wife is a big buyer from Amazon, but limits her purchases to new items. Even so, she is also a big returner to Amazon. She has ordered a few things for me, but I'm still not much of a fan. To me, it's a lot like like buying from QVC back in the 1980s...things look pretty enticing when shown and described, but many times just aren't that great when they actually arrive.

Hi 3kids3cats,
I have purchased several 'renewed' items from Amazon and so far, all without a single glitch. Both my son and daughter have each bought a computer (renewed), and they are completely satisfied. It seems, so far Amazon's claim is true and with the long warranty offer for returns, it's been quite a secure way to purchase from them.
The computer we just received last Friday came with the box taped up with 'Microsoft' tape, so not sure if it was 'renewed' by them or not but as stated, so far, not a glitch has been discovered in any of our purchases.
Good Luck,
God Bless,
Papa Joe

First, there is nothing reprehensible about buying from the vendor of your choice, be that Amazon, one of the big camera retailers, a local shop or even Abe's of Maine!

Second, I have purchased many used-like-new and renewed electronic products from Amazon, and never had any trouble. But depending on the overall cost $100 might not be much of a savings over a new with full warranty product. When I've gone that route either the savings have been in the 25-35% range, or the product was no longer available new.
