Planning a super moon shot Wednesday night, but took the camera out to a field to practice tonight.
Nice practice picture. Hopefully you'll have clear weather, and you'll get the photo you want.

Thanks. According to cleardarksky (dot) com, the sky's are forecast to be clear. I'd like to see a little clouds just to add interest to the image, but I just hope it isn't overcast.

My pleasure! And BTW thanks for your service, sir!
Great photo. Tried to catch it with a 300 mm lens, but the craters were a little soft.
I’ll try a tripod next time, and a change of ISO will make it better.
Auto, ISO didn’t get me there.
Last night at 8:20 to 8:40PM, I was standing on the side of a busy interstate with my R5 and a Sigma 150-600mm with a 1.4x teleconverter. This was one of two Super Moon images I was hoping to shoot. The second was of the Moon setting over Cabezon Peak the next morning (that one didn't work out as planned, but it wasn't a total loss. I drove to the Cabezon Peak area and spent the night in the back of my SUV
When I got to the location where I had planned to shoot the moon over Cabezon, I found the line of sight was obstructed. So, I drove a couple miles up the road to where I had a good line on the peak, but unfortunately, the moon wasn't going to line up from there. So, I decided to shoot just the Peak alone when the son first came up, then I shot the moon as it was setting on some other rock formations a few miles north. It was still a fun adventure even if I didn't get the shot I was hoping for.
Moon rising over Sandia Crest
Sunrise at Cabezon Peak
Moon setting over some other place,
That first one's a killer!
Chuck
Really nice set! That first image is awesome! The others are really good too.
I don't ordinarily go ape shite about 'moon' shots --even when they're "Blue Moon" or "Vampire Moon" or "Ronald McDonald Moon" shots-- but I like your first (#1) moon shot quite a lot.
But even though I like that shot, I believe it could be improved:
PLEASE NOTE: What follows will be a *subjective* suggestion rather than a pedantic 'I'm holier than thou' sort of *objective* suggestion [per Wikipedia / my (tattered but still legible) day-by-day 'go-to' Funk & Wagtail's / Reader's Digest / and/or gold standard OED --which if anyone is in doubt with regard to what "OED" stands for, that stands for the venerable and universally accepted (in Grades 7 ~16 and occasionally beyond) dictionary *source of sources*-- the 'Oxford English Dictionary' (which many local libraries may or may not have for casual perusal). That said:
As is, it's a Very fine shot. But it would be greatly improved with the inclusion of a kid on a bicycle 'riding' across the moon. Extra points could/would (most likely) be awarded if the bike has a carry basket on the front, and a strange (but benign, almost friendly looking) squat Alien creature is shown sitting in it.
<Edit:> Oops. No, not the 'first' shot. I refer specifically to the first shot among the three additional shots that you tagged on after the fact.

"Moon rising over Sandia Crest " is the nicest moon shot that I've seen in this forum in the 6 or so years that I've been a Hog. Moon shots are so overdone. There's a new one every few days and they all look the same, which is pretty much average. This shot is outstanding! Congrats on your beauty.
