Local woman -

My car was stolen out of my driveway last week. While driving on thruway a high speed chase with police ensued. Car stopped and robbers jumped out and ran. Apparently, car ran out of gas-😊. However, car was banged up (which insurance won’t cover because I didn’t do damage). Police think it’s related to car ring in New Jersey. Time to rethink home security and lock your cars.

"Time to rethink" "lock your cars". I think this gal's a little late to the game. I've been locking my cars (and house) for decades. And still we've been burglarized twice! The 1950's just called, by the way, and they want the popular saying, "no need to lock the car or the house" back.

I don't see how insurance won't cover it.

You're obviously not in the insurance business. They always look for a way to avoid paying. I suppose if she let a relative drive the car, and it got damaged, they wouldn't pay, either.

If I'm not in it, the car is locked.

Unfortunately, it's easy to open a locked car.

When I was a kid, my family had a 1958 Olds. My friend's family had the same model, and the key for one worked in the other. I found a GM key on the sidewalk, and that key fit both cars.

We have one of the most stolen cars in North America….the 2022 Honda CRV. Not only do we lock it at all times, the fobs are kept in an RFID wallet AND we use the Club, an old but trusted device.

It was a white BMW that was stolen, and she had "full coverage," whatever that means.

If "difficult to steal" means least stolen, part of the reason might be low sales for those mentioned. The 2 Hondas and the Camry are huge sellers, lots of them around to be stolen. So make and model might not be a good critereon.

If there are 1,000 of one model in town and 100 of another,
which do you think may have the higher stolen rate?
Given stealing "A" car in that town, the 1,000 group has better odds (10x) of the one being stolen.

If she let a relative driver the car they would pay but perhaps in this case she didn't let the thief drive the car.
