If the shadow was just a bit more distinct (i.e. recognisable) it would be awesome. Even without it it's an engaging "interesting corner" sort of shot.

See where following telephone poles and lines lead you? (LOL). I like how you showcase both the colors and tones.

Thanks, R.G. I agree about the figure (a man unloading boxes). For the theme "In Shadow," I might decided to hold this one back.

A side note: on UHH the photo appears brighter than on my computer, and I think on flickr. It's really most of the building that is in shadow, with that one spear of light.

Thanks, Mike. Since you mentioned telephone poles, look what I got yesterday morning for the "silhouette" part of next Create 52 theme.

Should we arrange an intervention?

Light and shadow, nicely done Linda. Maybe crop a little to remove what ever that is on the lower left side?

In Shadow by Linda Shorey, on Flickr

Shadows can be mysterious. For me the fact that you have to look for the shadow works really well. Then, when you do find it, it is bathed in the nice light that makes the shadow. The rest of the composition is suitably dark. This works well. I might also chime in about the "stuff" on the lower left. A slight crop would get rid of it and it such a slight crop would not have much impact on the rest of the composition.

If I may nit-pick, the top of the composition is not really doing that much. I would try cropping from the top and make it a square composition. Doing so, however, might remove some of the mystery. I'm not sure, if it were mine, which way I would go with this one.

I think without the bit of light and the man’s shadow Joe me it would be a ho hum shot. Good capture.

Thank you, Jack. That industrial dumpster took up a big part of the original frame, so I'll see if I can trim a bit more.

That's not nit-picking, Erich. It's the whole point of posting here

Once I opened my mind to a crop from the top, I then leaped to the distort tools. Here's one...maybe. Many thanks!

I would not have lifted the camera to my face if there hadn't been the bit of light, Frank

Thanks for your time and interest!

Surprisingly, I like this. It's a grungy scene that I probably wouldn't even have look at myself! I like the blue building and its mural. I know it's not the focal point, but it does make the surroundings enjoyable. The shadow is cool, and the warm light in the center is a real plus. I do like the crop better. It takes out some of the elements that didn't add to the point of the image.

This is a hidden gem photo. Congratulations. I played with some crops to eliminate the upper left electrical service but the blue window structure justifies the inclusion. BTW, it could be the off-main street alley scene in our little town of 8000. Yesterday's newspaper reported a fight involving 10 or more people at that location. Good thing I'm the only person making the unflattering juxtaposition. Great capture.
