I'm sorry but I beg to differ. In the DSLR days Nikon prosumer camera bodies were smaller compared to the others such as Canon. Prosumer and consumer models are always smaller than pro models. I advised OP to consider M43, because if he really wants smaller and lighter why go 1/2 way?

M4/3 IS half way to Sony RX10/100 ......

How many times do we have to tell you? The big boys are talking about mirrorless digital cameras. Go back to the kiddie camera table and keep your snide out of earshot.

There are many variables but if you want smaller and lighter consider a M43 kit. They are great for travel, great IQ in good light, Lens + Camera, will be 1/3 the mass and volume of equivalent in APS-C or FF.

Now, with all due respect, I have to take issue with that 1/3 figure, did you perhaps mean 1/3 less?.

It will depend on the body and lens of course, but for example, a Pany S5II at 1.45 lbs or G9 at 1.27 lbs is actually heavier than a Fuji X-T4 or X-T5 at 1.16 lbs. in terms of equivalent FL lenses, it’s hard to pick exact comparisons, but perhaps the 12-60 Pany at 11.3 Oz vs the Fuji 16-80 at 15.5 Oz. The total system weights are almost equal.

"Thinks"? What makes you think he does that?
He actually provides some intelligent commentary when he isn't making an effort to be an "A" hole! I think that comes from living in Chicago!

That is not likely to happen on UHH. It isn't that we aren't adults. While it varies from person to person, we all reach an age where the brain can't handle years of input with no pressure valve. Many continue to repeat themselves, obviously concerned that their 'pearls of wisdom' might not have sunk in with everybody.

Telling people be adults ... how's that working for you?

Is that the 3-year old's answer? I answered the mail, the OP's query. All we've seen from you and your other preschool chums is complaints and insults. Nothing worthwhile did you add to the OP's question. It's sad how infantile the UHH community has become in August 2023, even with the minimum 18 yrs age requirement to join. Although flattered about the small group of admirers that now snidely respond to my posts, I mostly try to just ignore the kindergarten members....

Guys lest keep it civil I mean everyone got and opinion and really the subject is looking to travel light but to do that without compromise quality is hard to do, for me for example I am happy with the gear I got z30 for now do good for me , but at the end we like it or not mirrorless will be the way to go in reality the gear is light and easy to move around but still to travel around is depend on what you want to accomplish in the trip you planing how many lens you will carry if you need a tripod and so on is all in what you need

AMEN ! But for most Hogsters there are two closely related major barriers:
• Peer group stupidity.
• Peer group arithmatic disability & phobia.

Those two barriers agaist m4/3 are almost always insurmountable, especially where the Hogster asking for advice is a card carrying member of the aforementioned peer groups.

Sorry to point out that your remark about inferior low light ability of m4/3 is just poor arithmatic. You hafta treat both sides of any equation equally. When you balance loss of ISO speed against m4/3s gain in DoF it all comes out in the wash.

M43 is 1/3 less for equivalent lens + camera. I'm basing that on comparing items from my kits. See one example shown below.

D750 + 85mm F1.8 vs OM-D EM-5 + 45mm_F1.8 (90mm equivlant FF Focal Length)

Don't forget the "full-full frame is the very best thing much better IQ because of the larger sensor" club, but they get very quiet when you mention medium format.
"Never bring a full frame camera to a medium format fight".

What kind of photography do you do? What are the two full frame zoom lenses you use? You might also consider a "mega zoom" type camera with built in lens, like the Sony RX 100 (m7 or other depending on your budget and needs) or the Sony RX10 m IV or a micro 4/3 camera (ie. OM systems). There are lots of choices these days and most will work well for different photographs though some are better for others.

I would keep what you have. But I would add either the RX100m7 for travel and is super pocketable or the RX10iv for all around performance. I own both and love them. Sorry not the greatest advertising shots but... Top to bottom RX10, RX100, a6500 A1. You can see how pocketable the RX100 is compared to the other cameras. Both RX cameras are the same 1 inch sensor. The a6500 is APS-c, and the A1 is full frame. Note: the RX100 has the viewfinder pulled up and therefor the lens is also extended. The RX100 is shirt pocketable. The a6500 is cargo pants pocketable or jacket pocketable.

Ack...ack...ack... Oh, excuse me! You are SELLING a D500 for something else!!?? Something better!!!??? Good luck with that!!! I'm still not convinced that My D850 is better than my D500!! Mirrorless!!!??? Pftt!!??

I agree with you Chief. I use a Nikon D5. Why spend all that money (that I don't have) to switch when the photos I get are great. For the little weight difference I'll stick with what I have. I also have a D300 & F4 film camera's as backup. I have all the lenses I need. I'm sure you've seen what I've posted on the HOG. Even if I won the lottery I still wouldn't switch. Although Pete wouldn't agree with me. On a sad note Viera Wetlands has been closed for all traffic. I loved that place. For other reasons I haven't gone lately. My Nikon D5 with my 80-400mm lens loved that place. When it cools down I have to find another. Happy shooting. But if I ever did win the lottery I'd go for a trip to Israel & an African Photo Safari.
