My Canon Pixma9000 has given up the ghost after about 12(?) years (got it the day before CompUSA closed its doors).
Won't recognize an ink cartridge and it's out of service; doesn't recognize the empty cartridge nor any of several new ones.

So, I want a new printer that will do a nice job on images that I have taken. Prefer wireless, and bottled ink rather than cartridge.
Appreciate suggestions.

Thanks

Epson Eco Tanks are good printers, but dye based inks (for the most part, and not archival.)

I have an Epson 8550 eco-tank printer and an Epson P700 with "archival" pigment inks. Each printer is connected to my computer which outputs to a calibrated monitor. The output from each printer is closely matched to each other and to the monitor. I often can't discern any difference between prints from the two printers, but when I do see a slight difference I prefer the print from the 8550 which costs about 1/2 as much as the D700 print. Do I care that the 8550 print will only last 30 years as opposed to 110 years for the D700 print? For 99.9% of my prints, I absolutely do not care. Only those prints that I want to sell need to be "archival." For all the other prints I'm very happy to save large amounts of money fo make prints that often look a little better. It is true that I need to print from the P700 often enough to keep the pigment inks running freely, but aside from that there seems to be no value in spending the extra money.

I switched from an Epson R3000 13'x19" printer to an Epson ET8550 (also 13x19"). Have it now for 5 months with no issues and easy printing, its also wireless but I like wired, it sits next the my computer.

If you liked the Pixma 9000 (I had a 9000 MKII), then the Canon Pro 200 is an obvious replacement. Sadly the days that with the rebate, the printer was almost free plus 50 free sheets of 13x19 are gone.

I use the 8550 for printing greeting cards that I sell at the craft shows. Cards don't have to last 100 years as a rule. I don't sell prints, but I make some for myself. The 8550 is an excellent printer for my purposes.

To print quality photos, purchase a photo printer, for everything else an inkjet will do. If you don't want to make the investment, have you photos printed locally/online and save your $$. Best of luck.

Like you I had a Canon Pixma 9000 and used it happily for many years before giving it to my oldest daughter. I replaced it with a Pro-100 that I'm still using today, and image quality is great. You mentioned that you don't want a printer that takes cartridges, but I don't think you will get the same level of quality.

I heartily recommend an ink tank printer if you're concerned about paying more for ink that the cost of the printer.

Have eco printed 8550
Took 5 machines in 6 months to get one to work right. Forget about borderless prints, as ink just gets all over with over spray.
Prints are excellent

Have you printed 11 x 14 borderless?
Watch out for ink puddles and over spray

Yeah, I've stopped printing borderless. If I don't want a border, I just slice it off.

I know you've had problems; I have not, and the only machine I ever had is still performing flawlessly. Two other sources have recommended that you NOT print borderless with this printer. or use certain glossy papers; that is not an issue for me, I have no need for borderless, and I seldom have a use for any glossy paper.

All I can say is that if the machine fits your needs, it is is a good printer, but if it does not, then you need to look elsewhere.

When the P100 was almost free like you did, I bought 2 and now I have a back-up that hasn't been opened yet.
I have the extra paper saved also. It's a great printer.

Hi Bboh:

I needed a new printer for everyday stuff to replace my HP that stopped recognizing the clolor ink cartridges. I found the Epson Eco-Tank ET-2850 on at Costco last month. It came with an extra set of ink bottles. So far I am happy with it and it is working well with my I-Mac and the Ventura OS. I wish you well in whatever choice you make.

Regards----Joe
