You might recognize this right away - or maybe you won't. What's the story behind this top? I don't know why that banana is in the picture, but it has nothing to do with the top.

It looks like an old Liberty Ship hatch cover. Many have been repurposed as coffee table tops, and other furniture tops. They sure make sturdy furniture tops.

That's my guess, a hatch cover off of a boat.

Along the Atlantic coast , You see them all the time but mostly made into coffee tables. It is a paddle or Door as the shrimpers call them. They are attached to the shrimp nets to direct the nets as the Shrimp Boats drag their nets. https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=how+do+shrimp+boat+nets+work&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:303813c3,vid:9flI6Whzg2g

The counter top is a boat hatch cover. The banana is a banana.

To ready the banana oil to be rubbed into the wood. (From an old memory of yore.)

Used to call those "otter boards". Forgot why.
