Olympus EM10 user that wants to add a different camera for his scenic photography

I currently shoot with an Olympus em10 mk2 which has been a marvelous camera for me for a number of years now. As happy as I am with it overall, I have never been happy with its output for scenic or landscape photography. I would like to add a Canon mirrorless camera for the scenic stuff. I will continue to use the Olympus for everything else. Even though DSLRs are supposedly better for landscape/scenic, I have no use for them for a number of reasons. I have used Canon point and shoot cameras over the years and really like their overall output and color rendition. Was thinking about an older Canon M5. I see that one can pick this model up for a great price now. Any suggestions along this line of thinking?

It is quite old and the M line is all but discontinued.
It sounds like your budget is limited.
I don't know if it would give you much more if any over your current camera.
If budget can be stretched a bit the R50 is way better image quality wise.
You can pick up some used EF/EF-S lenses relatively cheap and with the EF to R adapter they will all work beautifully with the R50.
Just something to think about.

Yes, budget is limited.,.....that's my reasoning for the M5 which looks almost as strong as the R50 at a much lower price. I realize that my Olympus em10 would be an equal to the M5, but I am missing the Canon color rendition that I need for scenic photography. It does seem that the M line is on the way out, but that shouldn't bother me as I only need two or three lenses.

Move up to an EM-1 mkIII or OM-1 that allows you to produce a 80mp RAW image. This would be a far superior route to go for landscape/scenic photos.

And, yes, I realize you are on a budget. But a used E-M1 mkIII would probably be the best way to go. It allows for handheld 80mp RAW landscape/scenic for post processing to get whatever color modifications one would want. The OM-1 would be the best you could do for a very long future usage.

Then the M5 is a great little camera for what you want.
Also, if you want lenses besides M lenses there are many third party lenses for it and all the EF lenses work perfectly with it using an EF to M adapter.
If you get the M5 get the EF to M adapter also as when time goes by that might get discontinued and difficult to find.

I’m not sure why you feel your OM-10 isn’t making it for you
Assuming you have some Olympus lenses why not look to a newer OM-1 camera
I’ve been using Olympus for years I’m not unhappy with my results

The OM-D E-M5 Mark Iii has 50MP high resolution mode. Mpb.com has a used camera for $619 for sale. Also, what lens or lenses are you using?

Landscape is all about sensor performance (size) and lens acuity. It is a very narrow dead end path you are proposing - but it is possible that it MIGHT work for you - especially if you use the best Canon crop lens - 17-55 f2.8 - even tho it is very old.
I would be much more comfortable using Sony E-mount with a rather good selection of MODERN used lenses. Yes, I have used both Canon and Sony - and still do.

I own and use my EM-10 Mk II for landscape photography. My two main lenses for use with my camera are the Zuiko 12-40 f2.8 Pro and the "plastic fantastic" kit lens the 40-150 f4-5.6 lens. Never ever the camera failed to give me excellent landscape images when I did my part. I never enlarge beyond 12x18 inches but I am sure I can go larger than that.

Did you know that the EM-10 Mk II has no AA filter? The result of that is sharper images. I am including here a link so that you could see what others do with this camera. https://www.flickr.com/groups/2846195@N25/pool/with/53084712254/.
All I can tell you at this time is that the camera is old, its owner is old too but the images satisfy my needs.

It's out of stock right now...but you can get notifications...1200 bucks...50MP sensor...full frame.

That's a landscape camera...and a good deal.

"many third party lenses" ? - in EF mount yes - and most of the best are full frame. ...not many in M mount ....

Hmmmmm..... I might need to rethink this. I think I've been using the wrong terminology. I'm into scenic, not landscape photography. I like to show places where I've been in a somewhat blog or story form. Camerapapi in his entry above kind of nailed it. I don't need something so fancy as what most of you are talking about and perhaps my Olympus EM10 mk2 needs to be worked with more. It really is a delightful camera for my purposes. The reason I'm wanting to "add" a "cheap" Canon M5 to experiment with is that I really miss the Canon colours. No matter what adjustments I make with the Olympus, I have been unable to get the Canon flavor that I miss. So, perhaps owning and playing around with both would satisfy my overall needs. I really don't need higher and higher resolution, more and more expensive lenses, etc. And, I definitely don't need a noisy slap slap slap DSLR. I can't imagine using one of those out in the field. Heavy, expensive full frame or perfect glass is not my cup of tea.
I really appreciate all the feedback I'm getting here. Keep it coming. We collaborative photographers are certainly a special group of people.

Hmmmm...... My original OM-D 10 (1) produced excellent printed 24"x30" prints. Landscape or otherwise.
~ My OM-D 10 II is a hop skip and a jump better - and maybe I'm crazy (you'd have to ask my kids or The Wife), but it appears to out-perform my Nikon D7100 in many applications, including the few times I shoot landscape scenes with it.
Granted, I'm no longer shooting PRO, so this is all subjective and suspect!!

Edit - I see you're after color balance..... Tweaking the settings should do that for JPEGs... RAW, I can't help with.....
