Nooooo, get him into full frame for similar price... ie.. Cannon RP.
There are lots of very inexpensive RF lenses available for it.
It's far superior to the rebel and holds resale value far longer.

Used it's similar price to a new rebel, but so far superior it's laughable, don't take my word, research for yourself.
