Had to shrink the pics resolution to stay under the 20MB file size limit. Wish you could see the hi res images.

Beautiful set. We put a deposit on a Princess cruise to alaska for 2018, our first cruise. After further thought, we decided that 2,600 passengers was too many, so we cancelled it and booked a Viking cruise to Norway that was spectacular. However, we plan to do an Alaska cruise in the future, but on Viking.

Why not just take the ferries! You can take your own vehicle, and stay as long as you wish in each port... without the crowds! We did, and loved it!

Actually, we did something like that recently. We took a two week Viking ocean cruise from Barcelona to Venice, followed by a week on the Rhine on Viking a year ago. There were places we wanted to explore more and other places inland, so we rented a car and spent a month driving around Italy this year and are planning to do it again next year.

Glad to see that you do that, also! I love to make my own itineraries! We see things/places most tourists never discover! Talking to the locals really helps, too! Another thing I do: when I find something of interest, (here on UHH, and other places), I copy and save pertinent info into a rather large file now, I call 'Trip tips', subdivided by state/country. It has grown to be fairly extensive.

It was a wonderful drive of about 1,800 miles that took us to places that had almost all Italians, so we really felt immersed in the culture. It will take a while, but I'll eventually post several photos from the trip. We started and ended in Orta San Giulio; Lake Orta is one of the most beautiful places we've ever been to and there were very few Americans there. I have been collecting information about places all over the world for potential travel and saving them in an Excel spreadsheet called travel links. I generally have a tab for each country, though some countries have more than one. I have one for Italy, one for the Italian Lakes and another for Venice. I have one column for the subject, another for the URL, another for a short "identifier" and another for notes. This way, I can easily sort for specific places. As an example, my Italy tab has over 600 entries. I have a tab for the U.S., as well as one for Hawaii and many others.
