Thank you to all that responded to my question on the Battery Grip.
I am placing it on hold at this time, I am a primary street photographer, with alot of other interest, I see no need to invest in a battery grip, I have extra batt. for my camera and the life of any batt. is not all that imp.whan it takes only seconds to put another batt. in to continue shooting. My thanks to all of you for taking time to help me make a decission on this subject. I consider you all special people with the same interest as mine.and are all special photographers, Thank you so much . Good luck on finding that special photograph, that you may be proud. As for me the search will go on after 20 plus years, there is no hurry. Thanks again.

That is not the reason for a battery grip

NOT only is it for extra batteries it also means that people like me are able to switch between portrait and landscape easier with a shutter release in the right position, and it makes a camera easier to handle.

It is a shame you can not try one out for a while. I am sure camera shops would let you test one in store but I think every camera should have one fitted.

The only drawback I ever found was camera storage with it on. I use a crumpler holster and a lowe pro daysack. They fit with grip and 70-200 attached but the holster is tight and I woudl expect not waterproof as where the rain cover used to go it moves and slips off a little now.

I suppose if you are using a long heavy lens and you would need a sturdy tripod to match the extra weight of the grip but not a problem for me.

Once you get used to a battery grip, you will find that it has some nice benefits besides just the extra battery.

However, one thing that the grip will do is make your setup look more impressive and also more conspicuous, which is something you don't necessarily want for street photography, when stealth is usually better.

If I was doing that kind of shooting, I would leave the grip behind.

I don't know what camera you have but there are grips to be had at low cost on Amazon. No reason not to have one.

This is one of those things I can go either way on. I used to have them for my cameras several years ago,,,and swore by them. Thought they were the greatest and could never live without it. Then I upgraded cameras,,,and got used to not having them anymore. For me,,,they are nice, but I can live without them. To each his own :)

Good decision. A street photographer need to blend in and not intimidate. I find that my battery pack on my D300s is too big to go un-noticed. I'd go for a Fuji X100 if I was going "Street"

One other thing is with my large hands, I find that it is much more comfortable with the grip. Also, on some cameras it will make it faster to cycle and you get more shots per charge. I would not leave mine at home, always on.
