Luminar Extension Question

I bought a set of Luminar extensions on sale. They work fine, but I didn't download them; they just appear in the program. I'm wondering how that till work if I install the program on another computer. Maybe the company knows what I have, and the extensions will activate automatically. On the other hand, if they go out of business, will I even be able to run the program, let alone the Extensions? Probably not. That's a big problem with security codes.

… And if Nikon goes out of business, where will you get support for your new Z8??

… And if aliens blow up our world …

The way I understand it is unless you payed extra you can only install neo on one computer. Look at your account and see how many seats you have for Neo. They call them seats

Software and hardware companies go out of business all the time, and generally you are just out of luck. In a few cases the company closes gracefully and issues a universal code for the software that will let you keep using it, but that is rare. I have lost thousands of dollars worth of usable stuff (scanners without drivers seems to be a big one) over the years because the company went belly up, they got out of the particular line of business and decided not to update drivers for new OS etc. You are always living in a rent not own world in tech, you just don't always know it.

This doesn't have anything to do with the original Luminar question, however:

In reference to the scanner software/driver issue, one might want to take a look at VueScan from www.Hamrick.com. They support over 7,100 scanners in Windows, Mac and Linux. I have an Epson V600 that is no longer supported with drivers or software. I tried the VueScan (Pro Edition) for $120 and it works great with my 2015 Apple iMac 27-in with MacOS Monterey. Saved me from having to purchase another scanner. They are constantly adding scanners to their support list as well as software updates; you might find that they might just bring some life back into your old scanners.

I checked with Skylum's tech folks and they said:

"It will be installed automatically when they install Luminar on another computer using their username and password".

I wonder when that will switch to a subscription plan.

laugh all you want but Adobe is making a ton of money with a single service stream while fixing problems AND giving you new function for the same $10, without driving you to new releases and new costs. It's cheaper for them and in turn for us users. If profits are as I suspect working well with this model, even the smaller folks will need to follow to keep an incoming cash flow and survive to compete. Once you have N releases running and expected to support them, you have an expensive service stream to support the thrifty people that expect service for 20 years. Let's see I went went from Win 10 to 11 for zero cost. I'll take the Adobe model in a heartbeat just for peace of mind to do my editing. Save the worry for new cameras and lenses.

If you have the subscription then you get all of the extensions as a part of that.

Skylum is a company with over 125 employees, scattered around the globe as they are based in Kiev Ukraine. The lifetime license you can use forever. The subscription is annual. I am not sure if they would convert to lifetime or not. I owned a software company where we wrote a vertical market application. When I decided I wanted out, I negotiated a deal with a competitor who larger than I was and my customers were upgraded to the new companies software for free. They wanted my customer base. Neither of our software was cheap so the annual maintenance fees covered the change. A few years later, I went to work their as a casual employee doing product testing.

That sounds very similar to how DxO offers extensions to PhotoLab. For PhotoLab Elite the extensions for their FilmPack and Viewpoint products are actually already built into the software. All a license for those products does is unhide those features which are already there so that they are available for use. If Luminar is using a similar approach then it is likely when reinstalling the product on another computer you just need to apply the license for the extensions to it after installing the product.
