I have been a Luminar user for years and have always been happy with it. I typically shoot RAW but I don't do heavy editing. Normally what I do to an image is adjust exposure, contrast, maybe shadows and finish up with some sharpening.

leftj,

Thanks! Your processing strategy matches my own. I appreciate the feedback.

Yes, I use Luminar Neo, replacing my LR6. I like Neo. I have several extensions that I bought as a package on sale, but the program works so well, that I seldom use the Sharpen or Noise extensions. I didn't sign up for the subscription, but I've gotten several updates as improvements were made. I've been using it without watching any of the tutorials, and I'm sure I'd learn a lot form watching them. Maybe tomorrow.

jerryc41,

That's especially helpful. I'm assuming that Luminar NEO worked seamlessly with your previously made file folders of photos. I've been debating about the extensions and whether or not I'll need or even bother to use them. I believe they can be purchased separately after you download NEO as they are separate modules?

I recently had to upgrade my MacBook Pro to macOS Catalina. Now I can't open Lightroom 3. I've been reading tech reviews on alternate programs other than Lightroom. Although opinions differ slightly on the website reviews Luminar Neo would appear to be a good substitute. I'd appreciate feed back from 2018 or newer Luminar users! Thanks!

I was in your position using Lightroom 3 myself, using Adobe Photoshop Elements 2023 and loving it, good luck!...Julian

Looking back, I see that I bought the seven available extensions on sale for $106. I recently bought Panorama when it was on sale. All the Extension appear in the left column that shows the processing tools. I haven't had any problems using it. It opens raw files from the new Z cameras.

Two more YouTube channels to check for Luminar tutorials are Anthony Morganti and Digital Photo Mentor (Darlene Hildebrandt)

Mr. B,

Attached is the original and the enhanced Luminar Neo version, assuming this may help you make the decision. There are discounts available through most of the YouTube recommendations you have received.

To gain the most out of Luminar Neo, or other post-processing programs, make images using the raw format. In the early days I made the mistake of making images using jpg instead of raw.

Wishing you the best as you make your decision.

Lowell

Great results, Lowell 🌐🌐🔟🌐🌐 Can you answer this, please. I have been sporadically interested in getting this app, but it seems as if you need an internet connection to use it. Is that so

been using NEO for a while, replacing Photoshop - love it!
what has impressed me the most is how I can use NEO on scans of 1980-ish slides and see a marked improvement over previous photo editors
