I've been watching from afar for awhile now, and haven't seen anyone with a Kodak camera. Well, I have a Kodak easyShare Z981. When I bought it, it was what I could afford and it looked like it would give me what I wanted from a camera. Do I really know what that is ???
It takes beautiful pictures but I just don't understand all of the "photo" lingo when it comes to setting it up. Aperture..?ETC, ETC,...do I constantly need to be "changing everything around?" Do I leave it on Automatic and let the camera figure it out?
I would love to hear as many comments as possible on the camera itself, also if anyone can point me in the direction of really getting to a place where I'm getting the most from this camera. At this point I know I'm not . I LOVE the idea of photography, and feel like I'm not the worst picture taker. Any feedback is genuinely accepted and appreciated.
Thanks!

Reckon it all depends on how far you want to reach into photography. Are you happy with your current results, or would you rather have more personal control over your photos? Strictly personal use, or do you wish to sell your work? All depends on how much further you wish to take it?

Annie you sound like me when i was starting out. Easiest way i found going to you tube search what aperture shutter speed iso singlely or with the word tutorials an the type of you're camera. Good luck an get the pictures coming from you're spot in the world. So we can see what it looks like.
Bust mostly have fun making changes an experimening. But moStly have fun.

Well welcome to the forum, annielee. Since you ask...to me it sounds like you got a nice little starter camera. What a perfect way to learn all that stuff without having to break the bank.

Like others have suggested go on You Tube or Google in the questions you have about all that lingo. Your camera has the ability to do more than just Auto so explore it if you want, that's how you learn best. If you are happy with Auto then leave it as is.

There's nothing wrong with Auto especially if you want to grab that special picture. But if you want to learn more and have more control like another poster offered then go ahead change a setting or two. You can always put it back to factory default if you can't remember what you did.

I am willing to say most of us here take hundreds of pictures to get just one or two we like enough to post. There are people of many different levels here and I would dare to say most are willing to offer any suggestions you may ask for. It's a very friendly community.

thanks Rex-
For now, probably personal use, I think I take some good shots, still and action but I do like to use the satutration on some of the stills.
For a true photog, this is kind of a given no-no isn't it?

I would love to be able to sell some of them, and been told I should look into it. I wpuld have no idea how to go about that in the first place I have not had anyone with any real knowledge look at anything I've shot.
A possible (?) lack of ......?

Thanks so much for all of this great information! It definitely gives me a lot to look forward to learning about.
I hope it's not too soon before I'm asking about some of the "lingo".

Seriously, many thanks!

Thanks Biker Chic!

You are so right about community friendly, you guys- and chic's :) are awesome!

I have changed from auto quite a bit, however one of the issues I have is shutter priority, manual, program compensation...on an on.....I'll get the hang, and am so pumped now that I've made the move to connect with such incredibly giving people like you!!

Thanks again, if you are on the road, I'll definitely be watching you. You must see some incredible sights-
: )

Annie just sit on you're porch an start playing with the buttons one the hardest to remember to adjust was white balance, can really change tone of picture. Just learn to laugh at it. It is kinda funny way you can change the appearance of same shot so many ways. You can't become a photographer till you called yourself a dummie 1208 times. Have fun!!!¿

Your tip of the season Annie...upcoming anyway...for snow shots always overexpose one or two stops for a whiter snow. Read, practice, ask...and more practice. Most of all...enjoy!! You learn every day, practice what you've learned, the rest will come in time.

Not really, it is a perfectly acceptable means of finishing the picture.

Hi Annie, can I just put in a good word for the good, old-fashioned book? There are 100's of basic photography hand-books; it's sometimes easier to pick up pearls of wisdom by just having a little pocket book with you and flicking through that rather than searching the internet.
Post some pictures soon and, like the others say, just keep practicing!

Good on you annielee you've taken the first step and got into UHH. Next thing you need to do is post some pics taken with your camera and ask for comments. All the girls and guys here are nice people and want to help not harm.
But until they see what you can do with your camera they can't offer advice. does that make sense?
